STDT is a versatile, powerful program for simulation of data signals and processes on personal computers. Engineers and students use it for analysis and evaluation of communications systems. This package includes the complete STDT software on disk, plus a reference manual, Simulation Techniques: The STDT Program. A companion textbook, Simulation Techniques: Models of Communication Signals and Processes, explains the principles of simulation of signal transmission. A simulation with STDT is conducted as follows: A user identifies STDT commands for each block of a system to be simulated. The STDT library contains over 100 modular commands that implement signal processes such as filters, modulators, data sources, noise generators, nonlinear amplifiers, detectors, error counters, correlators, Fourier transforms, and many more elements With the aid of STDT's menus, the user prepares a command list to model the communications link The user specifies parameters for each command; parameters define the characteristics of each of the blocks in the link A simulation engine in STDT executes the command list; a simulated signal is passed through each of the commands just as an actual signal passes through a physical communications link Output to screen, file, or printer consists of waveforms, spectra, BER estimates or other data as specified in the command list The reference manual provides instructions for installation of STDT, rules for preparing command lists, methods of using the menus, complete details on each command, and extensive examples (additionally furnished as sample command lists on the disk). The STDT Program is also available in a packaged set with the book Simulation Techniques: Models of Communication Signals and Processes (ISBN 0-471-51964-2). Computer requirements: IBM-compatible PC with at least 640K RAM, one hard disk drive, and one high-density 3.5 inch floppy disk drive. STDT runs under DOS 3.3 or later or as a DOS application under Windows 3.1 or 95. Graphics support: CGA, EGA, VGA, Olivetti, AT&T, or Hercules Monochrome Graphics (Hercules requires driver not included with STDT).
