An international investment firm, ARGO, LTD., Currencies & Exchange, is purported to have quiet ties to the White House. Forty year old Sam Abrahms is up to his boot tops in treachery, thrown together with Josh Logan, FBI Counterintelligence, in a last ditch effort to catch an American nemesis known only as "The Ax." This communist spymaster, hidden away in Zakopane, Poland, has a twenty year history of barbaric espionage successes. This pirated mainframe cipher machine has agonizing air defense and space probe ramifications, unequalled in speed and capacity. Sam and Josh must find and intercept the container shipment, already on the high seas.

The trail Sam will follow leads him from Washington to Copenhagen, on to Helsinki, a stop in Stockholm, a hellish dilemma in Warsaw and Zakopane, nested in the Tatra Mountains. A protracted sea escape leads Sam on through New Orleans to force the issue in Rio de Janeiro. Betsy Keller will be Sam's logistics controller and analyst, and yes, most of the time she enjoys the challenge. But on this one, Betsy, although razor sharp and thoroughly capable, is also totally in love with Sam, and she almost misses it.
